IEEE is a non-profit and the largest technical organization in the world with more than 377000 members in 150 countries. From its earliest origins, the IEEE has advanced the theory and application of electrotechnology and allied sciences, served as a catalyst for technological innovation and supported the needs of its members through a wide variety of programs and services. IEEE extends these services to the student community through numerous student branches in colleges and universities all over the world.

Through its technical publishing, conferences and consensus-based standards activities, the IEEE produces 30 percent of the world's published literature in electrical engineering, computers and control technology; holds annually more than 300 major conferences; and has nearly 900 active standards with 700 under development.

The IEEE student chapter of Delhi College of Engineering has been one of the most active and innovative branches in India. Born in 1982, with just 8 members, the student branch now has over 100 registered members.
